Thoughts are structures. Here the different pathways flow around the brain and form geometric structures.
Thoughts are not singular elements of and by themselves. They are connected with words, other ideas, memories, visual imagery, other forms of sensation, etc., etc.
They may be associated and influenced by varying degrees of emotion, whether it is a lot of emotion or very little.
The interesting thing about thoughts is that they can be put together and construct something that becomes more distant from our primary experience of life. Examples include scientific thinking, philosophic constructs, "deep" thoughts, religious constructs and ideas, etc,
A further example is the idea of the folding of time back on itself. I'm sorry, but no where in my inner systems would this idea have arisen. What the heck???
Just like my response above, we become familiar with our thoughts and those thoughts which work with our understanding and meanings of life. An unfamiliar or "foreign" thought may trigger a response that is built into all of us - the you vs. me dichotomy. what is mine and not-mine, what is my tribe and not my tribe. In this way our identification with our thoughts can be useful in starting wars, justifying other destructive behaviors, and causing all sorts of havoc. Thoughts must be carefully understood and "thought about".
