Clouds and the Land series

Earth and Sky came together and gave birth to the Clouds and the Land. Both were born simultaneously.

Though they greatly loved each other and could never be parted, each claimed to be older than the other. Their relationship has resulted in what we now call “weather”. Sometimes they chat happily until the subject of who came first arises. Then great tumults arise we call storms.

Most of the time we can surmise how their conversations will go at the start of each day…but not always. Then is when we get caught up in their “arguments” and “disagreeable spells”. It is often then we must run for cover.

Or so the story goes…

This series was inspired by a whimsical, delightful, uplifting afternoon wandering the areas west of Chinle, Arizona. The story-teller in my imagined I was part of the conversation between the land and clouds. There was a sense of timeless antiquity, a powerful sense of being present in the present, and being a part of a daily relationship between the two. I imagined how it would be similar conversations punctuated by times of disagreement and tumult. Yet it felt like I had for that afternoon become part of millions of years of conversation in words only they knew.
